The members of the Sergeants Major Association of California established the Chaplain's Fund in 1994 to help California National Guard Soldiers and Airmen with financial aid in time of a personal or family crisis. The Chaplain’s Fund provides immediate limited financial assistance, by providing grants and no-interest loans to soldiers, airmen, and their families.
Since September 11, 2001, we have provided over $461,000.00 in financial assistance to more than 500 California National Guard soldiers, airmen, and their families. Last year, we paid out over $67,000.00 to help 71 California Guardsmen and their families. With the continued high pace of operations and deployments, we will pay out just as much – or more, this year.
We need your help. Although our stated maximum benefit is $600.00 to $800.00, we often have to make exceptions to that policy in order to effectively help the soldier or family. Last year most of our payouts were for more than $800.00. Our goal is to be able raise the maximum benefit to $1,000.00, with the ability to provide up to $2,000.00 if needed in extreme cases.
Help us achieve our goal and support our soldiers by contributing to the Chaplain’s Fund. With your donation of $100.00 or $500.00 or more, you will help us to increase the level of assistance we provide to our soldiers and their families. All Chaplains’ Fund expenses are paid out of the Sergeants Major Association general fund, not from your donations. Every penny of your tax-deductible contribution goes directly into the Chaplain’s Fund to help a California National Guard soldier or family with a financial hardship.
Please donate today. Make your check payable to the “SMA Chaplain’s Fund” and send it to the Sergeants Major Association, 7785 La Mirada Circle, Buena Park, CA 90620.
Thank you for your commitment and support of the Men and Women of the California National Guard.
